Thursday, November 13th, 4 to 6:30
WRRF Headquarters in NASA Research Park
Building 583C, Moffett Field

The NASA Robotics Education Project, and Western Region Robotics Forum, Inc. are planning to hold an Autumn Botball event this year to give teams a chance to revise and tune-up their bots, or try out that alternative design you were considering last April. We also want you to invite potential new teams to ask questions and watch the action, and to register the team leaders to experience a short, hands-on workshop where they will be introduced into what it takes to "train" an autonomous robot. [We will provide pre-built robots capable of throwing a ping-pong ball.]

This is also a good time to show a potential local sponsor what a Botball tournament is all about.

We will hold the symposium at the WRRF Headquarters in NASA Research Park, Building 583C, Moffett Field, on Thursday, November 13th, from 4 to 6:30.

For Driving instructions

There will be space and time for about 6-7 teams plus a few showcase tables for designs and development procedures.

BYOL (Bring your own laptop)

Power, tables and chairs will be provided. :-)

The competition game board and rules will be the same as Botball 2003, except we won't hold official seeding rounds. The head-head competition will be double elimination after a random draw.

Here is the preliminary Agenda:

  • 3 PM - open for setup and trials on the game board
  • 4 PM - Welcome and introduction
  • 4:15 PM Open discussion and showcases with audience; stand-alone demo trials, and Introductory workshop for neophytes
  • 5:15 PM Begin Head-to-head competition
  • 6:15 PM Awards
  • 6:30 PM Social and light dinner for participants

Participation in the competition, showcases and workshop will be limited so register early! You can register by sending an email message to botball2003@wrrf.org with the following information:

  • School Name
  • Contact Name
  • Contact Phone #
  • Contact e-mail address
  • Number of participants you will be bringing
  • Number of Observers you will be bringing

And for any new schools you will be introducing to BotBall

  • Name of new school
  • Name and contact info for teachers
We need these numbers so that we can have enough food for paricipants. You may also participate as a volunteer mentor-aid for the workshop [a chance for students to teach teachers].

General audience admission is open to the public.

Everyone will be admitted with a picture ID [driver's, or student ID] at the Moffett gate.

Please send questions to botball2003@wrrf.org or tgrant@mail.arc.nasa.gov

Attached is a JPEG flier you can distribute to potential new teams, friends, sponsors, etc.

Thank you.
